Transform your school through a vision that can't be contained
Through The Vision Equation, leadership teams will learn what it means to craft, build, and execute a detailed school vision. Visions cannot be contained in the 140 characters or less we are given on a school improvement plan. They are complex and far-reaching. Each piece requires the right culture, the right leaders, and the right resources.
You can't just say you have a vision, you have to know the process of writing, communicating, and providing the pieces to make it happen!
Vision = Provision + Incentives + Resources + An Action Plan
People often ask me, "what makes you successful?" My response is almost always this, "I'm a really good Aaron." Identifying the Aarons in your organization is essential to the success of your vision.
On an average Wednesday morning, how many people in your building are already "just trying to make it to Friday"? If we are not careful, this permeates all that we do. This is what we call a survivalist mindset- and it's a vision killer.
Ready to take your school to the next step? Writing a powerful school vision also means you need buy-in from your students and community. Writing a component of your vision as a creed creates connection and motivation from all stakeholders.
In this short book, perfect for PLCs, leadership teams, and book studies, Charles hits on so many things that will grow your leadership teams and gain buy-in!
There are leaders who wait their turn—and then there are leaders who start leading long before the title ever arrives. Charles Longshore was that kind of leader the moment he stepped into our building.
I had the privilege of watching Charles grow from a passionate educator into a visionary school leader—one who didn’t just embrace the mission, but multiplied it. In this book, he offers a rare and honest look behind the scenes of school leadership: the tension between vision and reality, the challenge of earning buy-in, and the relentless belief that students and teachers deserve more than survival—they deserve purpose.
What you’ll find in these pages is more than theory. It’s lived experience, forged in the hallways of real schools, among real challenges, with real people. Whether you're new to leadership or decades into your journey, Charles brings a perspective that will remind you why you started and refocus you on what still matters most.
In every school, there are those who quietly carry the vision forward—who rally behind the mission, lift others when morale is low, and inspire action when progress feels stalled. This is the voice of that leader. Charles Longshore has written more than a book; he has written a testimony of what it means to lead from the middle, to support from the second chair, and to believe deeply in the power of a shared vision.
This book is both a roadmap and a rallying cry for anyone who believes that schools change not just through programs, but through people. If you’re a leader at any level—assistant principal, teacher-leader, central office staff—this book will challenge, encourage, and equip you to lead with conviction, courage, and clarity.
